Lions Roar at Season Launch

Plenty Valley launched the season on Saturday afternoon with a good supporter base following the team to the cross-town rivals Lalor United, to watch both reserves and senior teams take home the three points.

Seniors

The senior game kicked of at 3 PM, the first half was an arm wrestle, but the Lions looked more likely to open the scoring.

Lalor United found the Lions defence napping in the 50th minute and opened their 2010 account, going one up on the Lions.

Plenty Valley kicked into gear and didn’t take them long to pull United back with a fantastic free-kick  by David Petkovski 35 yards out on a 45 degree angle.  Lalor United had their work really cut out for them when the referee awarded the Lions a penalty for a foul on Jason Soklevski n the eighteen yard box.  Captain reliable converted from the spot once again to give the Lions the advantage.  The game was put beyond doubt when Jason Sokleski put the ball in the back of the net twice for his new club to seal the game for the Lions.

The Lion’s defence stood up once again with a solid performance by Vass Manojlovski and David Petkovski.

Lalor United did score a consolation goal thirty seconds from time, but it was too little too late.
Reserves

The reserves kicked off at 1 PM and it didn’t take long for Serar Issa to score his first goal for the Lions from a follow up in the six yard box. Lalor pulled back the goal from a Con Miskas handball in the box.

Plenty valley was on the attack again and their second goal came from Michael Tsakmakis taking the rebound from a corner clearance and puting the ball in the back the net with a great shot from outside the box.

As a result of loose defending, Lalor was quick to reply, scoring just before half time.

In the second half Plenty Valley picked up where they left off, and were able to go ahead once more with an Anthony Granata goal.   The Valley defence was able to shut down the Lalor United attack in the last thirty minutes to take home the three points.
